My seat mate farted while a lecture was on. It is natural to fart, so I ignored whatever. Break came, we all went for our breaks and came back for him to still be on his seat. Maybe he doesn’t fancy the break. We had 3 more lectures after and it was school over. The rest of the students took off like the steam in a pressure pot, I sat back to conclude on my assignments that were almost due for uploads. I took my time and spent almost 2 hours in finishing and uploading them in the school portal. This Asian guy was still seated in same position with breaks of sweats on his face.
Me: hey mate.
He didn’t turn or respond to me.
Me: school is long over before the janitors. Are you alright?
Seat mate: oh you can go then. I am waiting for something.
It was obvious that he was sweating in autumn 🍂 weather🤔.
A foul smell filtered into my nose. I started packing my stuff and stopped in-between..Me: hey. I am asking sincerely, are you alright? Do you need any assistance with something?
He ignored me, I stood up and left the lecture hall. Few steps away from the lecture door..
Seat mate: I need help.
He mumbled it.
I took some steps back to the door.Me: ok.
He stood up slowly, the foul smell became cogent. He walked up to me..
Seat mate: I soiled my bottom when I farted.
Me: I know. I perceived the smell. Come on, follow me.
Seat mate: where are we going?
Me: to the men’s, before the janitors take over.
We went to the gents. I told him what to do. I stayed by the door to reassure him with my voice. So he pulled his bottom and washed the spot he soiled, with concentration like I encouraged him. He gave me his bottom from the door, I went to the ladies and used one of the hair dryers to dry the washed spot. I returned the dry trousers when he has freshened up. I gave him my deodorant to freshen up more with.
He came out finally after 48 mns with smiles and confidence.
Me: here you are. All spick and span.
He hugged me and started crying. I just held him until the body tremors from his cries subsided. I gave him a wipe to wipe his face, and he started apologising for…
Me: stop. What happened to you was an accident. It can happen to me. You have every reason to relieve your bottled up emotions by crying. Crying is not gender based. Don’t you feel better now after letting it out?
Seat mate: I feel so relieved actually.
Me: great. Let’s go home mate, before our parents will start dialing 111.
He smiled broadly and walked out of the school with me.
We shook hands and went both ways.We students seat on any row that’s available for any lecture.
He has been my seat mate for a week now. Even if I am seating at the end of the classes or halls, he’s gonna seat next to me or reserve seat for me for running late.
“Hey mate, over here! I saved a seat for you”! He holas at me.
Always happy.
A good guy.👍🏽2 Comments
