I once met a lady. Let me call her Patricia for the sake of this writing.
I noticed she never talks to anyone. Always walking alone. I didnt know anyone related to her.
One day she hurried off as usual and I mentioned to the guy standing next to me that there’s something intriguing about this lady. Pointing towards her. He said he is married to her younger sister. I said, really? I’d like to know her. He told me not to bother and that she’s an introvert and doesn’t mingle.
One day, as our meeting finished, she hurried out. I just walked very fast until I got to her. Nudged her with my shoulder and kept matching her step while looking forward as if I didn’t know.
She laughed and said “Rita leave me oh!”
I said, oh so you know my name? I dont know yours. She laughed and said nothing more. We kept on marching. As she was about to turn i told her please tell me when we are turning because I am following you home. She stopped in her tracks. Looked at me and said , “wetin you want?”
I said friendship!
She was looking down but not at my face.
She laughed some more. Then said okay.
I said let’s start with your number. She gave it to me and I flashed her number.
That began a friendship that lasted for 2 years.
We never got close close but she related with me in a way that encouraged her family to always look for me and encourage me . They kept thanking me for my friendship because from childhood they have never seen her with anyone before. They said all her siblings had married except for her and they wanted me to be dragging her to my outings, parties, church or anything at all. I kinda liked my quiet friendship with her. I didn’t want any kinda person around me. I hardly open up a lot intimately, my friends will tell you. I dont pry either. So I liked Patricia a lot.
She told me that she was single and had been in only one relationship her entire life. The man cheated on her and she closed up forever.
She is a very good tailor too
Had natural long hair almost to her waist. Very light skinned almost looking like mixed race except for the fact that she had bleached her legs too much. Her legs were white. Must have been a mistake that just refused to correct itself. Plenty hair all over her body . I still can’t tell if her teeth were white or not because she never looked at my face ever! Always looking down or sideways. Even when she laughed.
Her family really worried and believed she would never marry. Her life revolved around her shop, her home and a handful of times, on the phone with me. No one else.
If I’m raising funds for anyone she will always squeeze 1k into my palm.
She had no opinion over anything except in private.
We sat in silence most times in public or I talked and she will laugh. In private she will tell me her opinion, looking the other way. Always laughing but very shy.
A very strange relationship we had but I liked it. It was different. Not once did she drink water in my house. She asked for nothing!
She was about 37 years of age as at this time.
A medical doctor came on holidays to Nigeria and saw her in her shop. He asked about her from the family he visited opposite her shop and no one knew anything. Not even her neighbors knew her. They just said, she’s a tailor.
He went to her shop and spoke to her. He asked firstly if she was married and she said no. He came back the next day with his aunt. Told her straight that he came on holiday but he was not leaving without her. He had lived in America for 25 years and is a medical doctor. She listened to them but just smiled and said nothing. To even take them to see her family was a problem. She didn’t. Her sister met them in her shop and took them. She just didn’t trust any man or person like that! You work to earn it with Pat. 🤣🤣🤣
Well, it wasn’t just trust! She didn’t want any marriage!
She wanted no kids, no marriage! She just wanted to be alone forever. Just to be left alone. The man went back, but his family kept visiting. She had a lot of inferiority complex now that I think about it. The doctor didn’t let her rest. Kept calling, texting, sending his family.
I’m pleased to announce to you that all the necessary rights were done including her registry wedding and Patricia is now with her husband the medical doctor in the USA. He came back and took her. Her brother inlaw, her sister, one uncle and I know it. Her neighbors still don’t know. It was hush hush all through. Just in her sisters living room, 4 of them sat and collected bride price. She didn’t sew a new dress nor did any photographer snap. Nothing!
Sometimes, I wonder at this God we serve.
He has a wonderful sense of humor. Someone you will never think will amount to anything because of where you have placed them or how you have boxed them will turn out to shock you. Ber family said no one would marry her.. .see God! God will prepare a table for the least expected. He will make you shine and reward you in ways you will never expect.
He will be kind to you!
He will give you the best!
He will make sure the right ones come your way and will make sure that the bad ones reject you and never see you.
May God bless Patricia and her marriage. She will excel! She will get happy.
She has not called any of us since she left. Only her hubby has. 😅😅😅😅Just keep being the best version of yourself.
I just passed by her shop in Aguda and remembered. The road is bad now oh. Governor do something !
