• 8 months, 3 weeks agoThere is no cure for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but there are many treatments:
Clomifene
An oral anti-estrogen medication that may be the first treatment recommended for women who are trying to get pregnant. Clomifene encourages the monthly release of an egg from the ovaries.
Metformin
A type 2 diabetes medication that may be recommended if clomifene is unsuccessful. Many people with PCOS have insulin resistance, which can cause excess androgen production, irregular periods, obesity, and diabetes.
Anti-androgens
Such as spironolactone, flutamide, and finasteride, these drugs are used to treat hyperandrogenism by reducing the amount of androgen. Anti-androgens are mostly used in the treatment of PCOS as these reduce hirsutism and other androgen related problems.
Birth control pills
These help to control menstrual cycles, lower androgen levels, and reduce acne.
Incretin mimetics and SGLT2 inhibitors
These newer medicines have proven to be more effective at reducing weight and cardiovascular risk.
Licogliflozin
A dual SGLT1/2 inhibitor that may be a unique treatment choice for PCOS patients. Studies show that licogliflozin therapy lowers the levels of glucose, insulin, A4, and DHEAS in PCOS patients.1 Comment
