Legal issues are so complicated and difficult to understand , even to legal luminaries. Sometimes i feel that Law is more of logic and emotional inteligence than a succour to the common man as they say.

Someone who is wronged goes to court as an accuser. The accused is charged to court for his wrongdoing. All is well up to this point.

Then the judge suddenly begins to ask the accused a series of questions, like Are you Guilty or NOT to the chagrin of the accuser. Come o, is that not why we came to court in the first instance. To ascertain guilt and punish the guilty?

Now the accused begins to delude, his innocense because he is being led that he cant be guilty until his accuser can proved that. Another layer of complexity is now added. The accuser just sits and waits impatiently for justice to be served.

Now the court starts a series of drama: plea, bail, adjournment, plea bargain, settlement out of court, etc, to the amazement of the accuser and legal cost is climbing. Sometimes, the accused goes to a higher court and ask for an injuction that nobody should further ask him about the matter until his own judge approves. A fresh layer of complexity.

The accuser remain perplexed. It looks like he cant get justice in the court. And is probably getting tired of the back and forth. Sometimes he just ceases to appear in court and the judge just adjourn by fiat!

Fast forwards to 5 years time. Suddenly the case is called upon again to the joy of the accuser. And the court now tells him that the time has elapsed. Justice has been delayed and the case is struck out.

Jesus! Honestly, i dont understand the legal system. Can someone pls enlighten me.

Should we not go back to African Tradition and start invoking the Gods to settle our differences? Ogun can strike a thief in a minute, if he is guilty. No bail, no adjourment, etc. Is it not better?
